It is the final days of my Countdown to Cambodia! I am very excited to be going back on July 14th, 2009. I will be flying over land and sea to Phnom Penh, Cambodia along with 11 teammates. We have been meeting together since February to learn about the culture, to develop the team, and to pick up some basic Khmer language. This year along with, Genie Kim, and Lisa Cheong, I am co-leading the team. As I look forward to our departure, I wonder how God will use the depth of faith and the unique giftings of this team in the lives of the young women we have yet to meet. While we don’t know, God does, and that’s exciting!
The focus for the ministry this summer will be with a NGO called Daughters Cambodia. They function to reach out to victims of sex trafficking and aim to restore dignity and self worth to each individual. Daughters Cambodia works to help girls find viable alternatives for their lives. (See the link attachment on the blog for more info about Daughters Cambodia).
I am excited that our team will be able to support this wonderful organization by providing and teaching workshops while we are in Cambodia. Some of the workshops will be: nutrition & anatomy, healthy relationships, budgeting, and dance to name a few. Personally I will be teaching the units on nutrition & anatomy and the effects of drugs on the human body. Some members will also serve their national and international workers through counseling and encouragement. My other responsibilities include leading our team worship times each day and providing support to the team as they experience life and ministry in Cambodia. Each member of our team has a vital role to play and has been working hard to develop their lesson plans, as well as, learning how to work together as a team and discovering the joys and challenges of cross-cultural ministry.
Please journey along with us by logging in to the blog: http://ratanakmissions.blogspot.com/, where we will provide daily updates. I echo Lisa’s words…“We value your prayers for we know they will be like arrows shot into the heart of rape, destruction and evil…For you will be interceding on behalf of innocence, justice, and righteousness but most of all joining forces with the ONE who loves these young lives and would choose to be beaten and abused for them. Indeed He did this and more.” Your prayers and support are invaluable to this work. I treasure your prayers to help infuse God’s power to work through me to serve this team and the people of Cambodia. Specifically could you please pray for:
- My physical and emotional health
- Time before and after the trip for connecting with friends and family
- For God to speak to me regarding direction and guidance in my life
Thank you for taking the time to read this prayer letter and standing in the gap for me If God is laying it on your heart to join with me specifically in prayer over these next six weeks I would love to hear from you. Please let me know in person or through email (char.pollock@gmail.com). Thank you again for all your loving support and friendship.
~Charlene
